While it may be true that there’s no such thing as a free lunch, there is quite a bit of free stuff out there, ready for the taking.
It’s true! I didn’t believe it, either, until I checked it out on my own. I have great news to share with you: freebies do exist.
It all started when my brother showed up with an amazing vintage medicine cabinet: all wood, tongue-and-groove (no metal hardware), and sturdy. Oh, how I longed for that cabinet. I asked, “Where did you find this?” He said, with nonchalance, “Oh, somebody left it out on the street.”
My brother has always been good at finding a bargain, but c’mon! Out on the street?! Yes, it’s true. Most cities and towns assign one day each spring and fall for folks to put out items they no longer need or want. My brother, in his pickup truck, is a champion at finding fabulous freebies – from the vintage medicine cabinet to a big enough brand new carpet “scrap” to cover the floor of a modest-sized room.
I know what you’re thinking: this could be a great first step to selling on eBay or any other online auction site. And you are right on the money, so to speak. Check your local paper (or search online for your town hall calendar) to find out when the goods will be right there on the curb.
But there’s no need to wait until springtime. You can check online sources like
Craigslist.org for free items in your town!
When people move, they are often all too happy to leave behind items that you can sell. My advice is, stick with the small stuff (selling a mattress is probably not worth the trouble). Today I checked my town’s site on Craigslist under “free” and found 300 record albums, Bose speakers, a guitar, even a unicorn piñata filled with candy (hey, I don’t make this stuff up!).
This is one super secret that is worth your time to pursue.
